DESCRIPTION:A Life On Wheels: Canadian Sleeping Car Porters During The Golden Age of Rail Travel\, 1900-1940 \nThursday\, February 16 \n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM \n  \nJoin us for “A Life On Wheels: Canadian Sleeping Car Porters During The Golden Age of Rail Travel\, 1900-1940”\, an online lecture on February 16! \nThis lecture will examine the lives and labors of Canadian sleeping car porters who worked the rails during the first half of the twentieth century. Professor Sarah-Jane (Saje) Mathieu (University of Minnesota) will discuss how sleeping car porters and their families transformed Black life in Canada from Halifax to Vancouver. Particular attention will be paid to the cultural and political impact of sleeping car porters\, particularly during their efforts to form what remains the largest Black union in the world–the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. \n  \nTICKETS AVAILABLE HERE \n  \nTickets for this event are free\, although registration is required. Please note this event has a limited capacity. \n  \nAttendees will get access to our exclusive Zoom meeting room\, where they can engage directly with the presenter and museum historians in a post-lecture Q&A. The event will begin at 7pm Eastern Standard Time\, and will end at approximately 8:30pm EST. \n  \nABOUT SAJE MATHIEU \nDr. Saje Mathieu is Associate Professor of History at the University of Minnesota. She is the author of North of the Color Line: Migration and Black Resistance in Canada\, 1870-1955 and the forthcoming book The Glory of Their Deeds: A Global History of Black Soldiers and Civilians in the Great War. Professor Mathieu earned a joint PhD in History and African American Studies at Yale University. She specializes in 20th century American\, African American\, and Canadian history with an emphasis on immigration\, war\, race\, globalization\, social movements\, and political resistance. \nABOUT THE TORONTO RAILWAY MUSEUM (TRM) \nThe Toronto Railway Museum (TRM) brings people together by telling stories of Toronto’s railway heritage.
